Installing MacOS in VirtualBox: How to do it

To test the MacOS operating system on another system like Windows or Ubuntu, install it in VirtualBox. The emulator creates an isolated MacOS environment for you, which works just like a Mac. For this you need the appropriate ISO file and the software VirtualBox.

Convert DMG to ISO: Before installing macOS in VirtualBox

To simulate an operating system in VirtualBox, you need the image file of the operating system. This is stored under MacOS in the format DMG. You then need to convert this file into an ISO file so that Windows can read it.

1. On the Mac, press cmd + spacebar and type "Terminal".
2. In the Terminal, then type "MacOS". Download the search result of the same name.
3. With a USB stick now take the DMG file to your computer.
4. Install the free program PowerISO.
5. With the help of the program now convert the DMG file into an ISO file.

Create Virtual Machine

Once you have the ISO file of the macOS operating system, proceed as follows:

1. Install VirtualBox.
2. Click "New".
3. Select a name and as operating system "Mac OS X". Unter „Version“ entscheiden Sie sich für 32 oder 64 Bit.
4. Dann klicken Sie auf „Weiter“ und wählen unter dem Menü „Platte“ den Punkt „Festplatte erzeugen“ aus.
5. Klicken Sie auf „Erzeugen“, wählen Sie einen Dateipfad und mindestens 4 GB RAM aus. Erzeugen Sie die Festplatte mit VDI mit mindestens 25 GB Speicherplatz.
6. Anschließend sehen Sie MacOS in VirtualBox unter dem Namen, den Sie vergeben haben.
