MHW Iceborne: Weaken monsters - all info on the new mechanic

In combat, Iceborne also brought many innovations to Monster Hunter World. An important one is the ability to weaken monsters at certain points. Our guide explains what you need to know about this.

The Iceborne motto: Stronger monsters need to be weakened.

Many monsters in Iceborne are faster, more aggressive and more dangerous than their predecessors in the main game. By weakening them, this can be compensated for to some extent.

This is why you should always weaken monsters in Iceborne

The basis for the process is the brace claw, which we have already discussed in detail here.
  • Once you are at the monster with the clamp claw, you can use the directional keys to jump to another part of the body if your condition allows it.
  • When you want to weaken a monster at the spot you are at, simply press the attack key. This starts an animation with which you cause damage.
  • The damage is not too high, but only a means to an end, as the monster is weakened.
  • At the weakened point, the monster is much more vulnerable for some time. This facilitates knockdowns or even the severing or breaking of body parts.
  • In some cases, you even have to weaken a spot to be able to achieve yellow damage values at all.
Since dealing with the clamp claw requires some skill and timing, it is advisable to practice the use well. After all, weakened monsters are a great asset in battle; not using it makes the hunt unnecessarily harder and more tedious.
