MHW Iceborne: Charge Blade info - what's new?

The Charge Blade, known in German as Energieklinge, is more popular than ever in Iceborne. Our guide gives an overview of the basics of the weapon and explains what's new.

Charge, discharge: Playing with the Charge Blade is a bit more varied in Iceborne.

Of all 14 weapons in Monster Hunter World, the Charge Blade seems the most complex at first. With a little practice, however, it unfolds its full potential.

MHW Iceborne: Charge Blade with new mode

Players of the Charge Blade and those who want to become one have been pleased with Iceborne, because:
  • The Charge Blade has received an additional mechanic: If the shield is loaded and full vials exist, you can switch the weapon into Savage Axe mode.
  • This happens from the elemental discharge animation.
  • The Savage Axe mode is basically the same as the familiar Axe mode, but significantly boosted, as vial damage is added with each strike.
  • The mode consumes vials and remains active until all vials are empty.
  • You can recognize the activated mode by a new axe icon right next to the icons for vials, sword and shield.
With the "Savage Axe" the Charge Blade gets more flexibility, because until Iceborne it was only a matter of unleashing as many elemental charges on the monster as possible. The high damage with the Charged Axe now makes it a valid tool for many situations, especially when timing or position are not ideal for the discharge.
