What is Whisper? We explain the social media app

Whisper has been very common in the English-speaking world for a long time, but is not yet too well known in this country. For this reason, we explain how the app works and what features it aims to score with.

Whisper was launched back in 2012 and is thus anything but a new release. However, the big trend always failed to materialize in Germany.

What is Whisper and how does the app work?

Generally, Whisper also sees itself as a kind of social network. This takes place exclusively in the app, which is available for Android and iOS.

• So Whisper is used to share content such as memes, photos and videos.
• In contrast to services such as Facebook, Whisper profiles are significantly more anonymous. This is intended to provide more security and privacy.
• Users have the option to find other users matching certain topics or even region.
• Thanks to this characteristic, Whisper is intended to encourage people to get to know other users and thus build their own network.

According to its own information, Whisper has around 30 million active users. The app is thus nowhere near as widespread as Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat, but popular enough to have a community in Germany as well.
