Excel: Remove watermark - here's how to do it

As in Microsoft Word, Excel also gives you the option to add a watermark to the header of your document. Learn here what options you have if you want to remove the watermark from your Excel document again and how to insert a new character.

How to remove the watermark from an Excel document

Watermarks are one of the various ways to protect your Excel document from being copied, for example. However, if you don't want to use the watermark anymore or replace it with a new one, you need to remove it. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open the document from which you want to delete the watermark.
  2. Switch to the "View" tab.
  3. Click the "Page Layout" option in the ribbon.
  4. Then highlight the watermark inserted in the header and press [DEL] to remove it.

Insert New Watermark

After removing the old watermark, you can leave the document as is or insert a new one.
  1. To do this, call up the "Page Layout" again via the "View" tab and select the header or footer.
  2. Switch to the "Design" tab via the ribbon.
  3. Select the "Graphic" option in the "Header and footer elements" category to load a new watermark into the document.
  4. After placing the graphic, click the "Format Graphic" option.
  5. Switch to the Image tab and select the "Bleached" option in the "Color" item.
  6. Confirm with "OK".
