Can laser cartridges dry up? We clarify

Even though inkjet printers are the most commonly used printers, laser printers are becoming increasingly popular. These contain cartridges instead of ink cartridges, in which a fine toner powder is. Whether laser cartridges or toner cartridges can also dry up and what you can do about it, you can find out here.

Can the cartridge of a laser printer dry up?

In contrast to an inkjet printer, a laser printer has no cartridges, but uses toner cartridges. These contain a fine powder called toner, which consists of synthetic resin, color pigments, magnetizable metal oxides and various auxiliary materials. Unlike the cartridges in an inkjet printer, the toner in a laser printer cannot dry out. Nevertheless, if problems occur during printing that can be traced back to the toner, this is usually because the toner has become moist and lumps have formed.

This is what you can do if you have problems with the cartridges of a laser printer

If the toner in the cartridge has become moist, you do not necessarily have to throw the toner cartridge away. Instead, it is recommended that you perform the following steps to erase the clumping of the toner.
  1. Shaking method:The shaking method first requires you to remove the toner cartridge from the printer. Then, holding it with both hands, shake it up and down or right and left several times to loosen the lumps.
  2. Stir method: If shaking does not help, look for a lid on the cartridge and open it. Now take a long, thin rod, insert it into the cartridge and stir around in it to crush existing lumps.
