Netflix black screen - and now?

It happens from time to time that the screen stays completely black when you access Netflix. The problem can be triggered by various causes. These include, for example, corrupted plugins in your browser or errors with antivirus software.

Screen stays black: This can be the causes

If you have the problem that the Netflix website stays black when you call it up or want to start content there, you most likely have to deal with a bug in the software.
  1. If you are only shown a black screen when calling up Netflix, you should clear the browser cache. After that, try to reload the website.
  2. If the problem occurs when you try to play content on Netflix, you should test whether you can access the website with disabled plugins. You can disable the browser plugins via the settings of your browser.
  3. Further, you can remove the Netflix cookies from your Internet browser. Netflix provides an extra web page for this purpose. This will log you out of your account and you will have to log in again.
  4. Furthermore, it may be that the Microsoft Silverlight plugin is defective. This is required, among other things, to play content. Uninstall it and then reinstall it.
Also malware can be responsible for the problem. Scan your computer with an antivirus or anti-malware program to make sure that this is not the trigger.

Repair Netflix app

If you use Netflix on a smartphone, a smart TV or on a console, you should restart the device once. This will fix most of the problems. Sometimes it's also helpful to log out of Netflix and then log back in.
