Android: Sort gallery - this is how easy it is

Your Android gallery quickly accumulates hundreds or even thousands of images. Out of the box, Android gives you two ways to sort and display these images. We explain both options and provide further tips.

You can sort your gallery by time or albums.

Modern smartphones have long become the central collection point for comprehensive photo galleries. This makes it all the more important to maintain an overview. Thanks to the options for sorting, you can find any pictures very quickly.

How to sort the pictures in your Android gallery

In the gallery on Android, you can sort by two criteria. To do this, open the gallery and tap the menu icon at the top left of "Album". Under "Sort by" you will see the following options:
  • Time: If you sort by time, all images will be listed chronologically, starting at the top with the most recent date.
  • Album: With this sorting you will get the overview to all albums. If you like to manage your images thematically suitable, we recommend you to create more albums.
  • Location: In the settings of an image, you can add the location. In addition, there are options to take pictures already with geotagging or the GPS data. If in one of these ways the location of your photos is known, you will find photos sorted by location in your Android gallery.
The more pictures are on your device, the more sense it makes to provide order with albums. However, if you are looking for a very specific picture whose date you know exactly when it was taken, sorting by date comes in handy. Fortunately, you can switch flexibly between the two sorts at any time.
