Ubuntu: update manually - update Linux

While Ubuntu updates on its own, there may still be a case where you need to independently look for a way to update. We will show you two ways to find updates and install them properly. For this, you just need some time.

These are the options you have

You don't have to worry about missing an update, as Ubuntu will notify you automatically. You can still update manually via the terminal or the Software Center.
  1. Click on "Add/Remove Programs" in the taskbar and select the "Update" option.
  2. Ubuntu will now check for possible updates. If there is no update, then you will see the message "The programs are up to date".
  3. If there are options to update, you must select them each and click "Update".
  4. Ubuntu then performs the update automatically.
  5. Press the key combination of CTRL + ALT + T on the desktop and the terminal opens automatically.
  6. Enter the command "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" and confirm this entry with Enter.
  7. Enter your password and confirm your entry. Don't be surprised that you can't see the input - this is for your security.
  8. If there are updates, Ubuntu will ask you if you want to proceed with the installation. Confirm this with "Y".

How long does a manual update take?

When you perform an update manually, the duration always depends on what scope is covered. When updating automatically, all components are updated, which makes it take more time than updating a program.
