Star Citizen: Chat explained - all info on channels and options

Communication is omnipresent in Star Citizen - but only if you want it to be. We explain what options the in-game chat offers you and how you can change the channel.

Alone, but not lonely: the chat is always with you in Star Citizen.

The written word still carries weight. In Star Citizen, chat is at your disposal and there are several options.

Star Citizen: Chatting possible in all directions - or not at all

Regarding chat, you have the following options:
  • To turn chat off and on again, "F12" is the key you are looking for, according to the default settings.
  • In some situations, it can be helpful to make chat disappear, as it does not take up little space. Whether in combat or when interacting with a terminal, a clear view is sometimes handy.
  • By default, you are in the chat channel "Global". In this all players of the server can write with each other, even if they are not in the same area.
  • With "Tab" you switch between the channels. Thus, an internal channel exists for each spaceship, which all players automatically join when they are in the ship.
  • In addition, of course, direct chats from person to person are also possible. These can be found in the communication menu of your mobiGlass ("CommLink"). There you can also change other settings such as the text color.
The chat in Star Citizen is easy to use, but depending on the situation, an effective tool. If nothing else, it helps to make new acquaintances and this factor is becoming increasingly important in the game, despite its alpha phase.
