Network key: what is it and where can I find it?
The network key is not a key that you have to use to unlock your router. Instead, it is a password or code that you use to identify yourself when accessing a router. Without the network key, you can't dial into the Internet.
Find it and enter it: The network key
Your router or modem is there to let you connect to the Internet. But to make sure that not every stranger who is in range for the WLAN connection can do this, authenticate your access with the network key. This is the only way to ensure that no unauthorized person uses your Internet connection. In addition, foreign access would be very insecure - someone with bad intentions could spy on your personal data.- If your smartphone or computer finds a router that can be reached wirelessly, you can select it as a WLAN connection.
- But in order for you to actually be connected, first enter the network key.
- This is either in the documentation you received from your Internet provider, or simply on the back or bottom of your router. Look carefully at the stickers on the device to find a WLAN key, network key or WPA2 key.
- Once you have entered the key on your terminal, you can click "Connect" and you will have Internet access.
- Select "Connect Automatically" so you don't have to enter the key every time.
- Once you are connected to the Internet, you can also read your network key
