Change WLAN network key - this is how it works

Each router has a network key, the input of which is necessary for using the WLAN function. If you would like to change the network key provided by the Internet provider, this is usually possible via the router's user interface.

This is what the WLAN network key is for

The network key of a router is also called WLAN key or WLAN password, because it is needed to get access to the WLAN network. Usually, the network key is a string of characters with at least 16 digits that can be found on the back of the router. If your WLAN network key has been hacked or you want to change it for some other reason, the procedure needed to do this depends on the type of router.

WLAN: Use this guide to change your network key

If you want to change your WLAN router's network key, you can do so from the device's user interface. Regardless of which router you have, you can reach it by entering the IP address of the device in the address bar of your browser. The further procedure now depends on your router type.
  1. If you have a FritzBox, please log in first with your password in the user interface and then go to "WLAN" > "Security".
  2. Look there for the entry "WLAN network key" and enter the new password in the appropriate field before you save it with "Apply".
  3. On the other hand, if you use a Speedport router from Telekom, please navigate in the user interface to "Security" > "SSID & Encryption".
  4. Set a new network key under "Pre-Shared Key" and confirm the change by clicking "Save".
