YouTube: Enable age restriction - how to do it

The age restriction crucially limits access to your videos - and in a very sensible way. Because by enabling age restriction, underage YouTube users will no longer be able to see your videos.

With age restriction enabled, only users of legal age will be able to see your video.

Age restriction is an important factor for a child-safe YouTube. So if you upload content that is not suitable for children and teenagers, you should enable age restriction.

How to enable YouTube age restriction for your videos

Enabling age restriction is quickly found:

1. Open your video overview.
2. Click on the title.
3. Open the menu under "Audience > Age Restriction" and select "Yes, make my video accessible only to viewers 18 years and older".

After a few seconds you will see a message that the video(s) has been updated. In the video's information, you will also see a yellow warning signal indicating that the video has been age-restricted. By the way, to disable the age restriction, follow the same procedure.

You-Tube: Sicherer Modus

Wollen Sie stattdessen, dass Ihre Kinder sicher auf YouTube surfen können, nutzen Sie den sicheren Modus.

• Klicken Sie dafür im Browser oben rechts auf Ihr Profil und wählen Sie im Drop-Down-Menü ganz unten „Eingeschränkter Modus“. Dadurch verbirgt YouTube alle Videos, die mit einer Altersbeschränkung versehen sind.
• In der Android-App finden Sie die Option unter „Einstellungen > Allgemein“.
• Nutzen Sie die App unter iOS, navigieren Sie in der App zu Einstellungen > SafeSearch“.
