Apple: Forgot restriction code - what to do?

You can lock content on Apple devices with a passcode - but if you forget that restriction code, it's tricky to unlock the device. However, you do have the option of using the unlock code.

Retrieve device: Forgotten Apple Restriction Code

The Apple suggested solution for this if you forgot the restriction code is to reset your device. If you reset your iPhone or iPad to factory settings, you will have to set it up again and the restriction code will be deleted - however, all other personal data and settings will also be erased. Loading a recent backup would restore the restriction code. However, for this you need the unlock code:

1. Go to the settings of your iPhone or iPad.
2. In the "General" menu, tap "Reset".
3. Here, select "Erase content & settings".
4. Now you need to enter the unlock code of your device.
5. Now wait until the process is complete.
6. Now you can set up your device again. In the process, you also set a new restriction code or can disable this.

Alternative: read out code

In addition, there is also the possibility to read out the restriction code with a tool. Dafür erstellen Sie zunächst ein iTunes-Backup, dann gehen Sie so vor:

1. Laden Sie sich Pinfinder herunter.
2. Entpacken Sie nun das Archiv und doppelklicken Sie die EXE-Datei.
