Google Maps: Show speed

Google Maps offers you numerous ways to plan your routes. Regardless of whether you want to take them by bike, on foot or by car. If you are traveling by car, you can not only have Google Maps navigate you, but also display the speed.

How to show speed in Google Maps

With Google Maps, you have the ability to view the route to a selected location and navigate while driving. In addition, the application offers you a function that allows you to display a speedometer. Your current speed will be displayed on it afterwards. Note that the speedometer is not always accurate, so this only serves to warn you of exceeding the speed limit, if necessary.
  1. Open the Google Maps app on your smartphone or onboard computer.
  2. Now select your profile picture in the top right corner. If you have not selected a profile picture, your initial letter will be displayed in a circle.
  3. In the next step, tap the "Settings" option and then "Navigation Settings".
  4. In the "Motor Vehicle Options" section, you can now activate the speedometer.
  5. If the maximum speed feature is available at your location, the app can use the speedometer to check whether you exceed it.
  6. Google Maps additionally offers you the option to display certain traffic information, gas stations or specific locations on the route that might be of interest to you.
