Convert AAX to MP3 - how it works

Audiobooks from the provider Audible are saved in AAX format by default. In order to listen to the audiobooks on devices that do not support the AAX format, you can convert the corresponding files into the MP3 format beforehand. With which tools this works, we show you here.

How to convert AAX files to MP3

If you use Audible to listen to audiobooks, they are stored in AAX format. To save the files as MP3 files instead, it is necessary to convert them with a suitable tool.
  1. To make the conversion from AAX to MP3 work, you need the Audible Manager, which you can download for free from the Internet.
  2. Once you have installed the program, start the Audible Manager and log in with your Audible account.
  3. Download the tool "AAX to MP3", open the ZIP file and run the file "AaxToMp3GUI.exe".
  4. After clicking "Browse", select the AAX file you want to convert and click "Convert".

Convert AAX to MP3: How to do it with iTunes

Alternatively, the conversion of AAX to MP3 is feasible with Virtual CD and iTunes. For this, please start Virtual CD, navigate to "Edit Settings" > "Burn" > "Output Format" and select "MP3". In addition, remove the checkmark next to "Use playlist to apply the name of the music tracks" and confirm with "OK". Then start the program again and click on "Insert virtual blank". Then switch to iTunes, open the AAX file you want to convert and add it to a playlist. You can now burn this list to the virtual drive and thus convert it to MP3 format.
