Jira: Time Tracking - how it works

Jira is a software that tracks tasks and projects. Particularly in the area of task management, the program has a broad base and offers many features and functions for application and test management.

How Time Tracking Works in Jira

The Time Tracker is a built-in tool in Jira that lets you see how much time you've spent on a project or task so far at any time. You don't need to install an extra program for this, you just need a browser extension. Once this is installed, you can have your times recorded directly in Jira.
  • The time tracker is usually located next to your tasks and projects.
  • To do this, simply click on the relevant task or project and then select the timer.
  • To stop the timer again afterwards, click on the time tracker button again.
  • This automatically creates an entry with your time, so you always keep track.
  • The Time Tracking is thereby available in both the free and the paid version without additional costs.
  • To add the extension to your browser, start it first. In Chrome, for example, call up the Web Store, while in Firefox you click on the three dashes above each other and then select Add-Ons.
