WordPress: What is Infinite Scroll - and how does it work?

When you scroll down a web page, you eventually find the footer area. With Infinite Scroll, however, this changes. We explain the feature and how you can implement it in WordPress.

Scrolling to infinity: with Infinite Scroll, more content is always loaded.

Many aspects can determine the bounce rate of a website. One of them is the behavior of the page when scrolling.

WordPress: Infinite Scroll possible via plugin

Infinite Scroll literally means infinite scrolling on a website.
  • This means that new content is always loaded when scrolling down. The footer thus shifts further and further down and does not appear at all or only very late.
  • To ensure that an Infinite Scroll also appears as such, a larger amount of content is consequently necessary. Otherwise, the page soon gets to the point where no new content appears when scrolling, because it does not exist.
  • Infinite Scroll is not a specific WordPress property, but can also be implemented there. This is done with the help of plugins that have been developed for this purpose. You can find an overview here.
Infinite Scroll can be used in various places, such as blog style or news segments. The advantage is that visitors are potentially kept longer on the page, as you are always shown more content. Whether this is actually the case in practice can be quite different, as it depends on both the type of page and the implementation.
