LaTeX: Inserting quotation marks - how it works

LaTeX is fundamentally different from conventional word processing programs. For this reason, novices in particular find it difficult to implement simple options such as inserting quotation marks. By default, LaTeX uses American quotation marks, which makes it impossible to create German texts.

LaTeX: Insert quotation marks - this is what you have to do

Generally it is already sufficient to integrate the package "babel" into LaTeX and to use the package option "german" or "ngerman". However, if that doesn't work, you can resort to commands.
  1. By using the command [\glqq], you insert ordinary quotation marks at the top right.
  2. By using the command [\grqq], you put exactly the opposite quotation marks at the bottom.
  3. Use [\glq] to set a single quote at the top.
  4. Use [\grq] to set a single quote at the bottom.
  5. To use English quotes, just use the default quotes. As long as no language pack is installed, the American characters will be used automatically.
  6. But to use double quotes, you must use the [\dq] command and use it to enclose the text.
