Excel 2016: Create dropdown list - it's that easy

To make your work with Excel 2016 easier, you have the possibility to create a dropdown list. In doing so, you don't have to be an expert in Excel to implement this step efficiently. We'll tell you how to get your Excel dropdown list quickly and easily.

How to create a dropdown list in Excel 2016

The easiest way to assign the same value to one or more cells is to create a dropdown list using the "Data Validation".
  1. Open the desired Excel list and select the cells you want to populate with the dropdown list.
  2. Now use the right-click to display the options for the selected range. Click on the item "Data/Data validation" in the options that appear.
  3. You will now see the options for this aspect and must click "Allow/List" there.
  4. Now an input field appears in which you enter the values you want to enter through the dropdown list.
  5. After you get the value displayed, you get a preview in which you can check the input. Once you have checked the correctness of the values, create the list by clicking "OK".
  6. Now the drop-down list automatically fills the selected range with the specified values.

What are the limitations of this option?

This working technique in Excel is worthwhile only if you want to fill several cells always with the same value or only allow certain values in the selected range. Then, as soon as you go to one of the selected cells, you can select the desired entry from a drop-down menu.
