Excel: Change dropdown list - these steps are necessary
To specify only a certain selection option for the content for a cell Excel offers the possibility to create a dropdown list. If you want to adjust this later, then this is also possible. With this function you can add entries as well as remove them again.
How to change a dropdown list afterwards in Excel
How to customize the dropdown list depends on how you created it. For example, if you have created a separate Excel spreadsheet for this purpose, then it is enough to delete the options or add new ones in it. But there are other alternatives.- If the list is based on a named range, select it. Then add an entry to the end of the list or delete an element from it.
- Now go to "Formulas" > "Name Manager" and click on the range. Now select "Refers to" and mark all cells that contain entries for the dropdown list. Confirm the settings with "Close" and "Yes".
- If the elements were entered manually, then select the cell with the list.
- Go to "Data" > "Data validation" > "Settings" > "Source". Now you can edit the list items or add new ones. Note that you separate the elements from each other with commas without spaces.
- If, on the other hand, the list is based on a cell range, then you also only need to remove or add the elements where the other elements are already located. Now select the cell with the drop-down list.
- Then go to "Data" > "Data validation" > "Settings" > "Source". Here you now select the cell contents on the worksheet and confirm the change.
