Parcel deposited at customs - what to do now?

In the meantime, many Germans prefer to order from abroad, because the goods there are often cheaper. A little cost for shipping and a week or two waiting time are gladly accepted. But what if the package is intercepted at customs? What happens next?

Parcel at customs: That's why the package ends up at the office

The sender has to include some information about the package when sending parcels abroad. If this information is missing or inaccurate, the package will be retained.
  1. On a package belongs a customs declaration of contents.
  2. In this declaration is, among other things, what is contained in the package and what paid value of goods behind it.
  3. About the information on the customs content declaration, the customs tariff and the tax rate are calculated.
  4. So if the declaration is missing, no taxes can be levied on the package and it is withheld.

Parcel at customs: What can be done now?

  1. The recipient has the option to pick up the package himself at customs and submit the necessary documents subsequently.
  2. But keep in mind that you usually have only a few working days to do so before the package is completely retained.
