Key shortcuts are always entered into the dial pad on a smartphone. Here is a selection of handy cell phone codes that work for both Android smartphones and iPhones:

• Mobile phone name: You can see the exact name of your smartphone via the key combination *#1111#.
• IMEI serial number: The serial number of your phone is displayed by entering the shortcut *#06.
• Switch off cell phone: Instead of the power off button, you can shut down your phone with the key command *#7594# without reconfirmation.
• Suppress cell phone number: Type #31# before the phone number you want to dial. The called person will now see "unknown phone number" instead of your phone number.
• Send time-shifted SMS: With the command *Later3# before the SMS text you send the message only three hours after the actual sending. The digit code is interchangeable here, but so far only works with Vodafone.
