Update pivot - how to keep the table up to date

Whether your pivot table gets its information from tables within the workbook or external sources, you can update it. You perform an update automatically in Excel using the appropriate button. Manual updating is also possible.

How to update your pivot table

The basic data in a pivot table in Excel can come from an external source such as an Analysis Services cube or a data feed. In addition, this data can come from tables that are in the same or a different workbook as the pivot table. To have the table automatically updated when the workbook is opened, you must first enable the appropriate option. Manual updating is also possible.

1. Open the pivot table and click on it to open the PivotTable tool.
2. Now select the "Analyze" option here and then click on the "Update" button. Alternatively, you can also press the key combination "ALT" + "F5".
3. You can also check the status of the update. Gehen Sie hierfür im Menüband auf „Analysieren“.
4. Anschließend klicken Sie auf den kleinen Pfeil unter „Aktualisieren“.
5. Wählen Sie im nächsten Schritt „Status aktualisieren“. Um die Aktualisierung zu unterbrechen, klicken Sie auf die Schaltfläche „Aktualisierung abbrechen“.
6. Um die automatische Aktualisierung beim Öffnen zu aktivieren, gehe Sie auf „Analysieren“ > „Optionen“. Danach aktivieren Sie unter „Daten“ die Option „Beim Öffnen der Dateidaten aktualisieren“.
