Until now, a Chromecast Ultra was needed to play Google Stadia on TV. In the meantime, there is an alternative and this is thanks to Microsoft. We explain what it's all about.

Many paths lead to Stadia gaming, however, depending on the platform, a certain hardware is required. For Xbox owners, there is now another option.

Play Stadia on Xbox: So it goes

Decisive was that Microsoft in March 2021 began to release the Chromium version of the Edge browser for the old and new consoles.

• It was already known from the PC that the new Edge is able to play Stadia.
• On the Xbox it looks no different: Those who own the console and already have the new browser installed will be able to launch Stadia there.
• This is especially interesting for Stadia users who would like to use the service on TV but don't own a Chromecast Ultra.

The Edge rollout is in alpha phase for now, though, which means only a small portion of Xbox owners will be able to enjoy it. Who gets the browser, unfortunately, can not be influenced, as it depends on the classification in Microsoft's test program.In this respect, the combination of Xbox and Stadia is currently mainly to be understood as a perspective for the future.
