How does Airdrop work? Share files wirelessly

Airdrop lets you transfer files between two devices without wires. In doing so, this transfer method allows you to share different content between two iOS or even OSX devices. Airdrop is only supported by Apple products so far. Most of the newer iOS devices support Airdrop.

What's behind Airdrop and how the technology

Airdrop is used for wireless data transfer between two Apple devices. The transfer method uses Bluetooth technology to create a peer-to-peer network between the devices.

1. To send a file via Airdrop on a Mac, open it. Then click on "Share." This is an icon with a square and an arrow pointing up. Alternatively, hold down "ctrl" while clicking on the file and select "Share".
2. Now select "AirDrop" and follow the instructions. Alternatively, open the menu via "Go to" > "AirDrop".
3. On top, you will see all contacts that also have Airdrop enabled in the Airdrop range and to whom you can send files.
4. Ziehen Sie anschließend über „Drag & Drop“ die gewünschten Inhalte auf das Foto des Kontakts, dem Sie diese schicken möchten.
5. Abschließend müssen Sie nochmal bestätigen, dass Sie die Dateien versenden möchten.
6. Wenn Sie Dateien über AirDrop empfangen, wird Ihnen auf dem Mac eine Nachricht angezeigt. Hier können Sie die Dateien „Annehmen“ oder „Ablehnen“.
7. Auf iPad und iPhone ist die Vorgehensweise ähnlich. Sie können hier Airdrop auch über das Icon im Kontrollzentrum aktivieren.
