What is AirDrop? Apple's solution for data transfer
If you're an Apple user or merely very tech-savvy, you've probably heard of the term "AirDrop". Whether it's pictures, documents or even videos, AirDrop allows you to share data between different Apple devices.
How to use AirDrop
Airdrop is a built-in feature that allows its users to transfer data wirelessly via WLAN and Bluetooth. The maximum transfer distance is about nine meters. To use AirDrop, the function must be supported by all devices involved. All newer Apple devices support the feature. To activate AirDrop, only a few steps are necessary.- Open AirDrop in the Control Center or in the menu under "Go to" and then select "AirDrop" on the Mac. In Control Center, you may need to tap on the "WLAN" area first to see the icon. Tap this and you can choose between "Receive from", "For contacts only" and "For everyone". On the Mac, you can set this in AirDrop under the "I am visible to:..." item.
- Open an app and then select the "Share" icon with the arrow pointing up. Some apps also allow you to select multiple images.
- Tap "AirDrop" and select the recipient for the file from the list.
