iPhone X: Transfer data - this is how the transfer works

To transfer the data from your old iPhone to your new iPhone X, there are several ways. For example, you can download a backup from iCloud to the new device, or you can use Apple's Quick Start feature.

Transferring data using Quick Start - this is how it works

To use Quick Start, in addition to the iPhone X, you need another iPhone or iPad that has iOS 11 or later installed as its operating system.
  1. Turn on the new iPhone X and hold it close to your old device that is turned on. The quick start screen will appear on the old iPhone. You will then be given the option to set up the new iPhone via Apple ID. Tap "Next."
  2. An animation will now be shown on the new iPhone. On the old device, the camera will become active. Then hold it over the iPhone X and center the animation, in the viewfinder the authentication takes place. If the camera does not work, you can also request a manual authentication.
  3. Then set up the code and Face ID on the iPhone X.
  4. Followed by this, you need to enter the password of your Apple ID on the iPhone X. You will then have the option to transfer your old data from an iCloud backup.

Load iCloud Backup

While setting up your new iPhone X, you can select the "Restore from iCloud Backup" option at the "Apps & Data" step. You will then need to log in with your Apple ID and the appropriate password. Then select the correct backup and the data stored there will be transferred directly to your new iPhone X.
