Enable FaceTime - here's how to do it

FaceTime is available for iPhone, iPad and Mac users to make video calls with friends, relatives or colleagues. However, you can only use the application if you activate it on the device first.

How to activate FaceTime on an iOS device

FaceTime gives you the ability to communicate with your contacts via video calling. To use FaceTime on iPhone or iPad, it is first necessary to activate the function via the device's settings.
  1. To activate FaceTime, please open the Settings app by tapping the "gear icon" in the app overview.
  2. Navigate to "FaceTime" in the settings and move the slider located there so that it lights up green.
  3. Then enter your Apple ID and click "Sign in" to log in.
  4. Now you can still specify one or more email addresses through which you can be reached in FaceTime and select your cell phone number as FaceTime address.

Enable FaceTime: How it works on the Mac

If you have a newer Mac model from Mac OS X Lion, FaceTime is already installed on the device and ready for use. If, on the other hand, you are still using an older Mac, you will need to download FaceTime first and then set it up. You can do this by opening FaceTime on the Mac, going to "FaceTime" > "Settings" in the app's menu, and moving the slider next to the "Video calling" entry to the right. Again, enter an email address and your mobile number, and specify which caller ID you want to use.
