AirPods: using gestures - these are the options you have

The AirPods can be connected wirelessly to the iPhone, Apple Watch or another Apple device. To make it easier for you to use the Apple headphones, they can also be controlled by gestures. We explain which AirPods functions you can use via gesture in this article.

How to use gestures to control your AirPods

If you use AirPods together with a device that has iOS 11 installed as its operating system, you can also control the Apple headphones using gestures.
  1. To enable and set up gesture control, please first open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Navigate to "Bluetooth" in Settings and select your AirPods from the list of Bluetooth devices.
  3. Tap then on the entry "Double tap on AirPod" and select one of the available functions for both the left and the right AirPod.

AirPods: You can control these functions by using gestures

In total, you can assign four different functions to the AirPods, which are executed when you double tap on one of the two headphones. Besides activating Siri, you can also use the double-tap gesture to control music playback. Depending on the selected option, you can start or pause the music playback by double-tapping or jump to the next or previous music track. If you do not want to use the gesture control on your AirPods, a complete deactivation of the function is also possible under "Settings" > "Bluetooth" > "AirPods" > "Double tap on AirPod".
