Star Citizen: Dynamic weather is coming - here's how it works

Currently, the development of Star Citizen is progressing with great steps. Among the highlights coming soon is dynamic weather, which will bring more than just visual effects.

Playing with the elements: Realistic weather is the next big step in Star Citizen.

Star Citizen is intended to be an extensively simulated world, so many details will matter. Weather will be a critical and important factor in this.

Star Citizen: Weather model to impact gameplay

Weather falls under the "Planet Tech" section, which is set to enter its fourth version in Alpha 3.8. The impact on gameplay is significant:
  • Each planet gets an individual climate with different zones, even dynamic changes are possible.
  • For each type of shore leave, this means a new challenge, as the right clothing is required. For example, the moon Aberdeen (which orbits Hurston) is extremely hot, so players will quickly die outdoors without proper gear.
  • This adds a new dimension to trip planning and should feel more realistic. Decisions must be made more consciously and thoughtfully.
Fittingly, a snowstorm was presented at CitizenCon 2949 (in November 2019), which impressively showcased the upcoming technology. Alpha 3.8 soll noch im Dezember 2019 live gehen, die Vorfreude ist entsprechend groß.
