Windows 10: Move user folders - how to do it

By default, Windows 10 creates the administrator account and a guest account after installation. However, you have the option to add additional user accounts. The folders of the accounts are backed up to the system hard drive. However, you can also move them to another hard drive at any time.

How to move user folders in Windows 10

If you want to free up space on your system hard drive, then it is possible, for example, to move your user folder in Windows 10. However, since this has a shortcut to many parts of the software, a certain procedure is necessary. Simply moving it, as it works with other folders, is not possible with the user folder.
  1. First press the key combination "Ctrl" + "E" to open the file manager. Alternatively, click on the folder icon in the taskbar or use the search function of Windows 10.
  2. Now navigate to your user folder. Usually, you will already see it on the left side. It has the name of your user account.
  3. Right-click on the folder and select the "Properties" option at the very bottom of the context menu.
  4. Switch to the "Path" tab at the top. Here you can see the current storage path of the folder. Klicken Sie darunter auf die Schaltfläche „Verschieben“.
