Error requesting a device description: what to do?

If you receive an error requesting a device description, a USB device cannot be installed correctly. If you have not connected a new device at all, an incorrect driver for the panel in the motherboard could also have been installed.

You fix the problem by installing the correct driver for the USB device for which you are getting the error message. The first step is to disable automatic driver downloading. Otherwise, in case of doubt, your manually installed driver will be overwritten again right after the installation or after restarting your PC.

First step on error: requesting a device description failed

If an error occurs while requesting the device description, disable the automatic driver installation and download it manually.

1. Press the Windows key and type "Control Panel" into the search box. Then you will see it as a search result.
2. Open the Control Panel.
3. Then click "System and Security".
4. Switch to the "System" menu.
5. Click "Advanced System Settings" in the left margin.
6. In the new window, switch to the "Hardware" tab at the top.
7. Klicken Sie auf die Schaltfläche "Geräteinstallationseinstellungen".
8. Beantworten Sie die Abfrage mit "Nein" und klicken Sie abschließend auf "Änderungen speichern".

Zweiter Schritt: Treiber manuell installieren

Suchen Sie im Internet nach dem aktuellen Treiber für das USB-Gerät, für welches Sie die Fehlermeldung erhalten. Laden Sie die Datei direkt vom Hersteller herunter und führen Sie sie aus. Das Gerät wird dadurch korrekt installiert.
