Internet Explorer: limiting download speed
Internet Explorer was Microsoft's built-in browser until it was replaced by Edge. Since you can use the browser not only to access websites but also to download content, it is possible to limit the download speed with a few simple steps.
How does Internet Explorer limit download speed?
If you have too low bandwidth, it may be advisable to limit the download speed of programs. This way you can still enjoy a stream while downloading. This is also possible with Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, however, the browser does not come with this function out of the box, but you resort to third-party software.- To limit the download speed you need to download a program. This is the free NetLimiter. Click the downloaded file to install the software.
- Once the installation is complete, you should restart your PC so that all the necessary changes can be made.
- Now open NetLimiter and Internet Explorer at the same time.
- In NetLimiter, click on the "Number Value" column at the "Internet Explorer" entry. Here should usually be the number 5012.
- Now opens a new window in which you can now select the maximum download speed for Internet Explorer. The number is specified in kilobytes per second.
- If there is no check mark at "Enabled", set it and then press "Save".
