Using FritzBox as NAS - how it works

The FritzBox offers a wealth of functions as a multimedia router. For example, you can also use the device as a NAS (Network Attached Storage). To do this, simply connect a sufficiently large hard drive to the FritzBox and set it up as a NAS. This works directly via the interface of your FritzBox.

How to set up the FritzBox as a NAS?

A NAS is very useful if you want to use a shared storage on the network that you can easily access. You can then use this for backups or other data such as photos or videos.
  1. First, increase the memory of the NAS, since the internal memory is very small.
  2. It is best to plug an external hard drive or a large USB stick to the USB port of the FritzBox.
  3. Now set up the FritzNAS. To do this, open the configuration menu of the FritzBox by entering "fritz.box" in a browser of your choice. Then you need to enter the FritzBox password.
  4. Then click on "Fritz!NAS" in the line at the top. Here you will already find some folders.
  5. About the "Add" button, you can also store new files at any time.
  6. To expand the memory, connect the USB stick or an external hard drive to the router.
  7. Under "Home Network" > "Storage" you will find the USB stick and the available space under "internal storage".
  8. If it says "not created" under file index, click the entry once to have an index created.
