Connecting Xbox Controller to Smartphone: How it works

Mobile gaming is no longer a rarity these days. Xbox controller owners can use it to control the gameplay on their smartphone with it. We show how it works.

Every button press is right: The Xbox controller is also suitable for smartphone games.

Touch displays have many advantages, but they are not ideal for precise control in video games. An external controller provides a remedy.

How to use the Xbox controller with the smartphone

The connection takes only a few seconds:

1. Activate Bluetooth on your smartphone.
2. Press the "Connect" button on the controller for a few seconds. This is the small round button on the top of the device.
3. Search for Bluetooth devices in the area on your smartphone. "Xbox Wireless Controller" should then appear on the display.

The connection should then be established and you can control your smartphone games with the Xbox controller. Note that first-generation Xbox controllers are not able to do this, as they do not support Bluetooth. Also important: When connecting to an iOS device, it must have at least iOS 13.
