What is Google One? We explain the modern cloud storage

The number of Google services is almost unmanageable, name changes in the program make the situation even more tricky. If you're wondering what Google One is all about, we have the answer.

Everything under one roof: with Google One, you get large cloud storage packages at a fixed price.

For many years, Google has been one of the main providers of cloud storage for personal use. Google One marked the logical next step.

What is Google One - and what is the difference to Drive?

Google One, just like Google Drive, is part of the search engine giant's cloud storage offering. The important thing here is the subdivision:
  • Google Drive still exists, but only describes the free offer with 15 GB of storage space per user.
  • If the need is higher, Google One comes into play. All larger, paid storage options fall under Google One. An overview of prices and features can be found here.
  • The name "One" is intended to clarify that the storage combines all Google services in one place, for example, photos, docs or notes.
In principle, Google One is thus not really a new product, but just a fresh name for an expanded and revised service. Google One existiert in dieser Form seit 2018 und konnte seitdem einen nennenswerten Teil des Cloud-Kuchens für sich beanspruchen.
