Enable DHCP server - how to turn it on

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, or DHCP for short, allows a router to automatically assign IP addresses to all connected devices. The protocol thus eliminates the need for manual configuration. You can activate this practical function either in your router or Windows settings.

How to activate the DHCP server on your FritzBox

If you want to turn on the DHCP server, this works via the settings of your router. If you have a FritzBox router, you can access the user interface via the browser. Follow these steps to do so:

1. Call the URL http://fritz.box in your browser and log in with your password.
2. Click on the left in the navigation on the item "Home Network" and select the category "Network".
3. Switch to the tab "Network Settings".
4. Scrollen Sie nach unten bis zum Punkt IP-Adressen und klicken Sie auf die Schaltfläche „IPv4-Adressen“.
5. Setzen Sie den Haken bei „DHCP-Server aktiveren“.

DHCP-Server in den Windows-Einstellungen aktivieren

Alternativ können Sie die Funktion auch in den Systemeinstellungen von Windows aktiveren.

1. Rufen Sie die Netzwerkverbindungen auf.
2. Klicken Sie den verwendeten Netzwerk-Adapter mit der rechten Maustaste an und rufen Sie die Eigenschaften auf.
3. Doppelklicken Sie den Eintrag „Internetprotokoll, Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)“.
4. Aktiveren Sie die Optionen „IP-Adresse automatisch beziehen“ und „DNS-Serveradresse automatisch beziehen“.
5. Klicken Sie zum Bestätigen auf „OK“.
6. Wiederholen Sie den Vorgang bei dem Eintrag „Internetprotokoll, Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)“.
