How much FPS does a game run smoothly? We clarify

High FPS values are good when gaming, as they ensure a smooth image. But where is the lower limit - and which values are achievable at all? We name the numbers that matter.

Ambitious gamers want to achieve more than 60 FPS, and they want to do it without dips.

From how many FPS does a game run smoothly? You should know these benchmarks

Over the years, a few values have become established as examples of when a game runs smoothly. As with the image resolution, the standards of the gaming industry are constantly growing.
  • Generally, moving images are considered smooth from 30 FPS. This value should therefore definitely be achieved.
  • Higher values, however, are clearly perceptible. The standard for very smooth pictures has been 60 FPS for many years. Many demos and benchmarks are oriented towards this value.
  • In the meantime, however, significantly higher rates are also possible. This always depends on the interaction of game and hardware. Thus, a high-end computer can achieve FPS values of well over 100 in technically older games.
  • To increase the FPS, you can lower graphics details. This brings a noticeable improvement.
  • Equally important is the resolution. The higher the resolution, the more power is needed and this naturally affects the frame rate. One and the same PC will produce lower FPS values at 4K resolution than at WQHD resolution.

Hardware for good FPS

The crucial component, by the way, is the graphics card. However, any system is only as good as its weakest component. If the RAM or your CPU are not enough to compute a game, you will not get high FPS values even with a good graphics card.
