The MISC Prospector was the only ship capable of mining until Update 3.8. Here's the info:

• The Prospector is a relatively small ship for a pilot. With 24 meters in length, it belongs to the small category.
• The mining scanner nevertheless makes it an alternative vehicle for all single players who want to do serious mining.
• To make it clear that the focus is solely on mining: The Prospector has 96 SCU of cargo volume specifically for mining yield, but no conventional cargo volume. Trade with other goods is thus not possible.
