Avira is an antivirus software that is available in a free and a paid version. In addition to virus protection on the PC, Avira also offers you a browser protection add-on. We explain how this works here.

What is Avira Browser Protection

If you have installed the Avira program to protect your PC or laptop from viruses, you can also use Avira Browser Protection (ABS). This is a free add-on that you can download for your browser to protect yourself from dangerous sites, phishing or tracking while surfing the Internet. In addition, Avira browser protection prevents the display of annoying advertisements after successful activation and protects you from downloading unwanted programs.

How to use Avira browser protection

To use Avira browser protection, some requirements must be met. So far, the ABS is only available for Firefox 48 and newer, Chrome from version 32.0 and Opera 19.

1. If you are using a browser that is compatible with the Avira browser protection, please start it and call the page "avira.com/en/avira-browserschutz".
2. Then click there optionally on "Add to Chrome", "Add to Firefox" or "Add to Opera" to download the add-on.
3. War die Installation erfolgreich, wird Ihnen das ABS-Icon oben rechts neben der Suchleiste angezeigt und Sie können dieses anklicken, um zu prüfen, ob eine Internetseite sicher ist.
