How to encrypt your files with VeraCrypt

If you have left a USB stick or an external hard drive unattended, then it is easy for others to get hold of your data. If you want to prevent this, then this is only possible by encrypting the storage medium. You can use various software to encrypt the hardware. Here, for example, the free app VeraCrypt offers itself.

1. First you need to download VeraCrypt for your operating system and then install it. This is done, as with other programs, by double-clicking on the file.
2. Follow the installation wizard to complete the process.
3. Then start the software on your PC.
4. Now it is necessary to create an "encrypted volume". On this virtual, encrypted drive you then put your files.
5. For this you must first click on one of the "slots".
6. Now select the item "Create Volume".
7. Now starts a settings wizard. Click on "Create an encrypted container file" and confirm the selection with "Next".
8. Follow the wizard, here you can select, among other things, the encryption type and also the volume size.
9. Once the volume is created, mount it via "File" to save content on it and then move this container to a USB stick.
