Resetting Apple HomePod - how it works

If you encounter problems while using the HomePod or you want to sell the device, it is necessary to reset the Apple speaker. To perform the reset, you have several options to choose from. We explain step by step how to proceed.

Apple: How to reset using the HomePod app

If your HomePod does not respond even after several restarts, or if you want to sell the device or send it in for service, it is necessary to reset the HomePod to factory settings first. To reset the HomePod using the associated app, please proceed as follows:
  1. First, make sure you are logged in on your iPad or iPhone with the Apple ID you used to set up the HomePod.
  2. Then open the Home app, press and hold the "HomePod" entry and navigate to the settings.
  3. Tap "Remove Device" there to perform the reset.
  4. If you use the HomePod together with your Mac, the device can be reset by opening the Home app on the computer, double-click on "HomePod" and go to "Settings" > "Remove Device".

This is another way to reset the HomePod

If the HomePod can not be reset in the way described above, it is alternatively possible to reset the device by pressing on the surface. To do this, disconnect the HomePod from the power supply and wait a few seconds before reconnecting the device. Then press with your finger on the surface of the HomePod and keep your finger on the device until you hear three tones.
