USB stick is not displayed - what to do?

To always have files handy or to transfer them between two computers, a USB stick is a good choice. With this you can also reinstall your operating system. However, if the USB stick is not recognized, you can not access it. This can have different causes.

What to do if your USB stick is not displayed

If you want to transfer files from your USB stick to your computer, you must first connect the stick to your PC via a suitable port. Usually, your system will recognize the USB stick directly and it will be displayed on your desktop or in the file manager. If this is not the case, there can be several reasons behind it.

1. Try to connect the USB stick to another port on your device first. If this is defective, the stick is not recognized and thus not displayed.
2. If the stick is still not recognized, connect it to another computer to check whether there is a fault on the USB stick.
3. If the stick is recognized on this computer, outdated drivers may be to blame for the error.
4. Tippen Sie auf dem ersten PC die Tastenkombination „Windows“ + „R“ ein und führen Sie den Befehl „devmgmt.msc“ aus.
5. Gehen Sie im nun geöffneten Gerätemanager zum Bereich „USB-Controller“.
6. Klicken Sie hier mit der rechten Maustaste auf Ihren USB-Stick und wählen Sie im Menü die Option „Treibersoftware aktualisieren“ aus.
