iPhone: Record 4K video - how to set it

4K videos are crisp, but due to the size of smartphone displays, this sharpness is not necessarily noticeable. The three newer X-generation iPhones are capable of 4K videos. However, this resolution is not set by default. However, you can activate this via the settings.

Sharp on demand: 4K video is technically possible, but it needs to be enabled first.

How your iPhone can record 4K video

With every new iPhone, several new features are added. For example, the camera and other hardware components are always being improved. Thus, the resolution of videos has also increased. If you want to record and save your videos directly in 4K, then this is also possible on the iPhone. However, you have to activate the corresponding function in advance for this. Also note that your videos will need more storage space afterwards. You can enable 4K videos on your device via the settings in a few steps.
  1. Go to the "Settings".
  2. Select "Camera" there.
  3. Tap on the right at "Record video" on the displayed resolution. This will give you an overview of the options.
  4. Select one of the 4K levels. These come with different frame rates (24, 30, 60).
Keep in mind that this will greatly increase the amount of memory required. At 60 frames per second, a 4K video already requires several gigabytes even at a few minutes in length. 4K videos are therefore only recommended if there is enough free storage space.Capable of 4K videos are the iPhone XS and all newer devices.
