Show fake stores - how to spot the rip-off

In times of online trading it is sometimes not so easy to distinguish a real online store from a fake store. However, you don't have to be a specialist to recognize a fake store. Often these are easy to distinguish from legitimate stores, as long as you pay attention to a few features.

How does a fake store give itself away?

Some fake stores are copies of real stores. These are somewhat more difficult to differentiate from legitimate stores, yet you can recognize the fake already by a few characteristics.
  1. To recognize a fake URL is quite easy. Mostly, double endings are used here, such as ".de.com" or similar. Even if the content of the page does not match the URL, caution is advised.
  2. Does the store offer a secure payment method such as on account or PayPal? Only verified sellers have these payment methods. You should generally never pay in advance or transfer money.
  3. The prices are far too cheap: If you have been looking for a certain product for a long time and it is now suddenly available for a quarter of the price, you should be skeptical.
  4. Look at customer reviews on other websites. This is a general advice that always applies. Denn nicht bei auf Fake Shops werden Fake Bewertungen genutzt.
  5. Fehlen die AGBs oder sind diese nur mit einem schlechten Übersetzer-Programm übersetzt, lassen Sie lieber die Finger von dem Shop.
