PS4 own music - this is how you listen to your favorite tracks

With the update to firmware 2.0, it is possible on Sony Playstation 4 to listen to your own music in the background while playing games. This works either with locally stored music or also with streaming services like Spotify.

How to listen to your own music on Playstation 4

Since the 2.0 firmware update for Playstation 4, you can listen to your own music while playing a game. However, in order for this to work without any problems, you need to pay attention to a few little things.
  1. To get the music onto the Playstation, you need a USB stick or a hard drive. It is important that the storage medium is formatted in FAT32 format. Otherwise, there may be problems with the recognition.
  2. To play music on the Playstation, you need to make sure that the tracks are in the correct audio format. The supported formats are MP3 and AAC. If the files are not in one of the two formats, they can be converted with a converter.
  3. Lay on the external disk or USB stick in the root directory a folder named "MUSIC". In this copy your music.
If the stick or disk is connected to the PS4, now start the music via the main menu. If you start a game and the music goes off, you do not have to do anything more than disable the sound in the game and start the music again via the menu.

Music streaming service on the PS4

In addition to local music, you can also use streaming services such as Spotify to listen to music. To do so, simply download the corresponding application from the Playstation Store.
