Android: High battery consumption due to media server

If your smartphone is losing power quickly, the reason may be the media server. With a few tricks, you can reduce the energy consumption again and thus extend the battery life of your Android smartphone.

Why does the media server generate high battery consumption?

On Android, you can display your battery consumption with some apps. Here you can then see exactly which app has consumed how much power. If you use such an app, the media server is quickly identified as an energy guzzler. Here's how to counteract this:
  1. To normalize the battery consumption again, you can delete the cache (short memory) of the media server. This will stop all media on your smartphone from being indexed. To do this, simply go to "Settings", then on to "Apps" and "Media server". Click on "Clear cache" there.
  2. The high energy consumption can also be caused by a defective SD card. Try to use a new card or format the old one on your PC.
  3. Switch the sharing to "Only on WLAN" in the settings of the media server under "Share". This way, data is not constantly sent over the mobile network, which also costs you a lot of energy.
Additionally, try not to use other power-hungry apps like games and applications that require a lot of processing power too often.
