The latest Android 9 smartphones have several gigabytes of memory by default. In addition, you have the option to expand it with an SD card. If you save a lot of apps, the memory will still be full quickly. In this case, the operating system offers you various options for a solution.

What you can do if your Android 9 memory is full

If you have a lot of pictures, videos and apps stored on your smartphone, your internal and external memory will be full very quickly. To create free space again or to expand your internal memory, Android 9 offers various options.

1. The first thing you need to do is to find out which content on your device needs the most storage space. For this, it is a good idea to use various apps, such as DiskUsage. You only need to download these from the Play Store.
2. Another option is to transfer your data to an external storage medium. In this case, an SD card is a good choice. Alternatively, you can regularly transfer your pictures and videos to your computer, thus creating space on your smartphone.
3. Apps usually require the most storage space. These can be moved to an external SD card on Android. However, this approach only works for some apps and usually only parts of the application can be moved.
4. Under Android 9 "Pie", there is also the "Adoptable Storage" function. With this, you can integrate an SD card as internal storage. You can then only access the content via the smartphone, but the storage capacity is completely seen as internal storage. Thus, you can install apps directly on it.
