FileZilla: Insecure server, it doesn't support FTP over TLS

Do you get the error message "Insecure server, it doesn't support FTP (File Transfer Protocol) over TLS (Transport Layer Security)" when you start FileZilla? This means that there are problems with client to server encryption and therefore the connection has been disabled.

Message: "Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS"

The error message means that the connection between the FTP client and the FTP server is not encrypted. So data is transferred unencrypted. This is critical, because the user name and password can be easily tapped. To still be able to connect to the FTP server, you need to make a setting in FileZilla's Sever Manager. Follow these steps to establish a connection:
  1. Open FlieZilla and call the server manager via the navigation.
  2. Select the server you want to connect to.
  3. Change the encryption in the drop-down menu to "Use only unencrypted FTP (insecure)".
  4. Confirm the entry with "OK".
The connection to the Sever now works again.

Be careful of unencrypted connections

Even if there is only insensitive data on the FTP server and you also do not intend to transfer other important data there, a secure connection is important. This is because it is easy to use an unencrypted connection not only to record the file transfer, but also to steal the access data to the server. Therefore it makes sense to set up an encrypted connection in the future.
